AI security for what you paste · Free Chrome extension

Paste the log. Not the customer.

When something fails, in production or in UAT, the quickest way to understand it is to paste the log into an AI. PromptClean hides customer names, account numbers, passwords and keys first, and collapses the hundreds of repeated lines around the error.

Or skip the panel: Alt+Shift+X in any chat box.

The moment it matters

A tester pastes a failed UAT log into an AI to write the defect. The customer's name and account number came along in the paste.

  1. 01

    The paste is the risk

Logs and error messages carry details that were never meant to leave the company.

  2. 02

    The check happens first

PromptClean reads the draft on your device and replaces what should stay behind.

  3. 03

The AI still gets the problem

Placeholders keep the story readable, and repeated lines collapse into one.

Keyboard shortcuts

Two keys. No panel needed.

Click into the chat box and press a shortcut. The text is cleaned where it is, a note says what changed, and Ctrl+Z puts it back.

Alt+Shift+X

Redact

Every name, account number, password and key in the box becomes a placeholder. Your wording stays exactly as you wrote it.

Alt+Shift+R

Redact and compress

Redacts first, then collapses repeated log lines and minifies JSON, so a long paste comes out short.

ERROR timeout × 200→1 line + a count

On a Mac, Alt is the ⌥ Option key. Change either shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

How it works

Three steps, and you still press send

Nothing happens until you ask, and nothing is ever sent for you.

  1. 1

    Paste as usual

Into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. A small note appears when the draft holds something sensitive.

  2. 2

    Check what it found

Each finding says why it matters. Untick anything you want to keep.

  3. 3

    Send the clean version

Values become placeholders such as [NAME_1]. Nothing is ever sent for you.

Who it's for

Anyone who reads logs

Developers and business analysts make the same move when something breaks. They leak different things.

Developers

“Why is this failing?”

Pastes
Stack traces, server logs, config files
Leaks
API keys, passwords, connection strings

Business analysts and testers

“What do I write in the defect?”

Pastes
UAT errors, logs, rows copied from a spreadsheet
Leaks
Customer names, account and policy numbers, dates of birth

What it catches

The details that should stay behind

People and money

  • Customer names
  • Spreadsheet name columns
  • Emails
  • Phone numbers
  • Addresses
  • Dates of birth
  • Card numbers
  • Bank accounts
  • IBANs
  • Sort codes

Secrets

AWS, GitHub, OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, Slack and Google keys, plus passwords, tokens and private keys.

IDs

  • Customer IDs
  • Policy numbers
  • US SSN
  • UK National Insurance
  • Aadhaar
  • PAN
  • Passport

Dashed items are suggested rather than ticked, because the AI often needs the ID to follow a failure. Detection is best-effort: a name with nothing around it, as in “Ask Priya Patel to retest”, is not caught, so read the result before you send it.

For your IT team

Easy for IT to say yes to

Reads

Only the chat box

On ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Elsewhere, only text you select, after you click or press a shortcut.

Stores

Only settings

History is optional, off by default, and keeps redacted text only. Placeholders live in memory.

Sends

Nothing

No network requests at all. An automated check in the code fails if one is ever added.
